Karen Exner, born 1995, lives in Berlin and works on a variety of freelance projects, cooperative projects, and commissions in the fields of visual art, illustration and animation. To this end she has developed her own particular style of illustration. Instead of using conventional drawing she creates her illustrations by scratching them into a layer of oil-pastel chalk. This time-consuming and sometimes meditative technique gives her the space to immerse herself fully in her theme and to think through new ideas as she works.
